Ultracet (Tramadol and Acetaminophen)
Ultracet is a unique pain medication that combines tramadol,
a leading prescription pain reliever, and acetaminophen, the most commonly
recommended over-the-counter analgesic in the U.S. Ultracet has been approved
for the short-term (five days or less) management of acute pain. Ultracet
provides powerful relief from many kinds of acute pain, including joint
pain, strains and sprains, post-operative recuperation, joint pain flares
(i.e., associated with osteoarthritis) and muscle aches.
About Ultracet
Ultracet Directions
Ultracet may be taken on an empty stomach or with food.
Side effects you may experience while taking Ultracet include drowsiness,
dizziness, and constipation. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE IF
you develop a skin rash, itching, confusion, changes in mood or behavior,
hallucinations, dark urine or pale stools, yellowing of the skin or eyes,
or unusual tiredness. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY IF you experience
seizures, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or swelling of face or mouth.
Store Ultracet at room temperature in a tightly-closed container away from
heat and light. If your symptoms do not improve or become worse, check with your doctor.
Ultracet Precautions
DO NOT TAKE ULTRACET IF YOU HAVE HAD A SEVERE ALLERGIC
REACTION to codeine, hydrocodone, dihydrocodeine, oxycodone (such as Tylox,
Tylenol with Codeine, Vicodin). A severe allergic reaction includes a severe
rash, hives, breathing difficulties, or dizziness. IF YOU EXPERIENCE
difficulty breathing, tightness of chest, swelling of eyelids, face,
or lips, or if you develop a rash or hives, tell your doctor
immediately. Do not take any more doses of Ultracet unless your
doctor tells you to do so. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or
take Ultracet for longer than prescribed. ULTRACET MAY BE
HABIT FORMING. Use caution driving or operating machinery. DO NOT
DRINK ALCOHOL while taking Ultracet. DO NOT TAKE other
products containing acetaminophen (check labels closely) while you
are taking Ultracet. IF DIZZINESS OCCURS, sit or stand up slowly.
BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE,
OR SURGERY, tell the doctor that you are taking Ultracet. IF
YOU EXPERIENCE WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS (nervousness, sweating, nausea,
diarrhea, tremor, trouble sleeping), check with your doctor . FOR
WOMEN: Discuss with your doctor is you are planning on getting pregnant.
ULTRACET IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while
taking Ultracet.
Drug Interactions with Ultracet
DO NOT TAKE ULTRACET if you are also taking carbamazepine,
cyclobenzaprine, an amphetamine, opiate analgesic, tricyclic antidepressant,
serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI),
promethazine, or medicine for appetite suppression, sleep, or a nervous,
mood, or behavior condition. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR
CONDITIONS may be needed if you are taking isoniazid, guanidine, or an
oral anticoagulant.
Ultracet Overdose
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control
center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of Ultracet overdose may include
nausea, vomiting, sweating, unusual drowsiness, slowed breathing, seizures,
stomach pain, dark urine, deep sleep or loss of consciousness, coma and death.
Missed Dose of Ultracet
IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF ULTRACET and you are taking it regularly,
take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose,
skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.
DO NOT TAKE TWO DOSES OF ULTRACET AT ONCE.
Fioricet 100 tablets (Butalbital 50mg + APAP/Caffeine)
Fioricet is a combination of Acetaminophen, Butalbital, and Caffeine.
Acetaminophen is a
pain reliever and fever reducer. Butalbital is in a
class of drugs called barbiturates that slow down your central nervous system
(brain and nerve impulses) causing relaxation. Caffeine is believed to
constrict dilated blood vessels that may contribute to tension headaches.
Together, acetaminophen, butalbital, and caffeine are used to relieve
complex tension (muscle contraction) headaches although precisely how Fioricet
works is unknown.
About Fioricet
Fioricet Directions
To prevent upset stomach, take Fioricet with food or milk.
Pain medications work best in preventing pain before it occurs. Once the
pain becomes intense, Fioricet is not as effective in relieving it. Take
Fioricet as prescribed. Do not increase your dose or take Fioricet more
frequently without your doctor’s approval.
Fioricet Side Effects
Fioricet May cause lightheadedness, dizziness, drowsiness,
stomach upset, nausea, and sleeping disturbances the first few days as
your body adjusts to Fioricet. If these symptoms persist or become bothersome,
inform your doctor. Notify your doctor immediately if you develop: a rapid /
irregular heartbeat. An allergic reaction to Fioricet is unlikely, but seek
immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction
include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing.
If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or
pharmacist.
Fioricet Precautions
Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: serious
liver disease, alcohol or narcotic dependence, emotional/mental conditions,
heart disease (arrhythmias, recent MI), stomach/intestinal ulcers, any
allergies. Acetaminophen may cause liver damage. Daily use of alcohol,
especially when combined with acetaminophen, may increase your risk for
liver damage. Check with your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
To prevent oversedation, avoid using alcohol and other sedative type
medications while taking Fioricet. Fioricet may make you dizzy or drowsy;
use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving
or using machinery. Avoid alcoholic beverages. Fioricet contains caffeine.
Avoid drinking large amounts of caffeinated beverages while taking
Fioricet as excessive nervousness and irritability can occur. Fioricet
should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Small amounts of
Fioricet appear in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Drug Interactions with Fioricet
Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription
drugs you may use, especially of: “blood thinners”. Tell your doctor or
pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use that
cause drowsiness such as: medicine for sleep (e.g., sedatives),
tranquilizers, anti-anxiety drugs (e.g., diazepam), narcotic pain
relievers (e.g., codeine), psychiatric medicines (e.g., phenothiazines
such as chlorpromazine, or tricyclics such as amitriptyline), anti-seizure
drugs (e.g., carbamazepine), muscle relaxants, antihistamines that cause
drowsiness (e.g., diphenhydramine). Because Fioricet contains acetaminophen,
check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking other medications
containing acetaminophen which is commonly found in nonprescription pain
relievers and cough-and-cold products. Read labels carefully to check
ingredients. Fioricet may interfere with the effectiveness of birth
control pills. Discuss using other methods of birth control with your
doctor. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or
pharmacist approval.
Fioricet Overdose
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison
control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of Fioricet overdose may
include vomiting, unusual drowsiness, lack of feeling alert, slow or
shallow breathing, cold or clammy skin, loss of consciousness,
dark urine, stomach pain, and extreme fatigue.
Missed Dose of Fioricet
If you miss a dose of Fioricet, take it as soon as
remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose,
instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing
schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose of Fioricet to catch up.
Flexeril Next Day (Cyclobenzaprine)
Flexeril is a muscle relaxant prescribed to relieve
muscle spasms resulting from injuries such as sprains, strains, or pulls.
Flexeril, when combined with rest and physical therapy, provides relief of
muscular stiffness and pain. Improvement is manifested by relief of
muscle spasm and its associated signs and symptoms, namely, pain,
tenderness, limitation of motion, and restriction in activities
of daily living.
Uses of Flexeril
Flexeril is a muscle relaxant prescribed to relieve
muscle spasms resulting from injuries such as sprains, strains, or pulls.
Combined with rest and physical therapy, Flexeril provides relief of
muscular stiffness and pain.
Flexeril Directions
Flexeril may be taken with or without food.
Flexeril should be used only for short periods (no more than 3 weeks).
Since the type of injury that Flexeril treats should improve in a few weeks,
there is no reason to use it for a longer period. Flexeril may cause
dry mouth. Sucking a hard candy, chewing gum, or melting ice chips
in your mouth can provide temporary relief.
Flexeril Side Effects
Side effects of Flexeril cannot be anticipated. If any develop
or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible.
Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue
taking Flexeril. More common side effects may include: Dizziness,
drowsiness, dry mouth. Less common or rare side effects may include:
Abnormal heartbeats, abnormal sensations, abnormal thoughts or dreams,
aggressive behavior, agitation, anxiety, bloated feeling, blurred vision,
confusion, constipation, convulsions, decreased appetite, depressed mood,
diarrhea, difficulty falling or staying asleep, difficulty speaking,
disorientation, double vision, excitement, fainting, fatigue, fluid
retention, gas, hallucinations, headache, heartburn, hepatitis, hives,
increased heart rate, indigestion, inflammation of the stomach, itching,
lack of coordination, liver diseases, loss of sense of taste, low blood
pressure, muscle twitching, nausea, nervousness, palpitations, paranoia,
rash, ringing in the ears, severe allergic reaction, stomach and intestinal
pain, sweating, swelling of the tongue or face, thirst, tingling in hands
or feet, tremors, unpleasant taste in the mouth, urinating more or less
than usual, vague feeling of bodily discomfort, vertigo, vomiting,
weakness, yellow eyes and skin. Problems such as confusion or
hallucinations are more likely in older adults.
Flexeril Precautions
The effects of Flexeril during pregnancy have not been
adequately studied. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant,
inform your doctor immediately. It is not known if Flexeril appears in
breast milk. However, cyclobenzaprine is related to tricyclic
antidepressants, and some of those drugs do appear in breast milk.
If this medication is essential to your health, your doctor may advise
you to discontinue breastfeeding your baby until your treatment is finished.
Flexeril Drug Interactions
Serious, potentially fatal reactions may occur if you
take Flexeril with an antidepressant drug known as an MAO inhibitor
(such as Nardil, Parnate) or if it has been less than 2 weeks since you
last took an MAO inhibitor. You should closely follow your doctor’s advice
regarding discontinuation of MAO inhibitors before taking Flexeril. Avoid
alcoholic beverages while taking Flexeril. If Flexeril is taken with certain
other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered.
It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining
Flexeril with the following: Barbiturates such as phenobarbital, Guanethidine
and other high blood pressure drugs, other drugs that slow the central nervous
system, such as Halcion, Xanax and Tramadol (Ultram).
Missed Dose of Flexeril
If you miss a dose of Flexeril, Take it as soon as you remember, if it is within an
hour or so of your scheduled time. If you do not remember until later,
skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not take
2 doses of Flexeril at once.
Flexeril Dosage
ADULTS: The usual dose is 10 milligrams 3 times a day.
You should not take more than 60 milligrams a day.
Flexeril Notes
Flexeril is not a substitute for the physical
therapy, rest, or exercise that your doctor orders for proper
healing. Although Flexeril relieves the pain of strains and sprains,
it is not useful for other types of pain.
If You Take Too Much Flexeril
Any medication taken in excess can have serious
consequences. If you suspect a Flexeril overdose, seek medical attention
immediately. Symptoms of Flexeril overdose may include: Agitation, coma,
confusion, congestive heart failure, convulsions, dilated pupils,
disturbed concentration, drowsiness, hallucinations, high or low temperature,
increased heartbeats, irregular heart rhythms, muscle stiffness,
overactive reflexes, severe low blood pressure, stupor, vomiting. High
doses also may cause any of the conditions listed in “What Side Effects
May Occur?”.
